FOR TODAY
Outside my window...
Such a pretty day - sunny and quite warm for January approaching the low forties. Days are already getting longer and spring is coming!
I am thinking...
Ah yes . . . been thinking about lots of things but on my mind right now is what to weave next. Just started warping my Schacht rigid heddle loom which I can use most anywhere and hope to put a new warp on the LeClerk Colonial soon but that one is way up stairs which seems too far away from the fire on these wintry days.
I am thankful...
For lovely visits with friends and family over the holidays which flew by so quickly.
In the kitchen...
Still have goodies left from the holidays so don't need to do much baking, although I made herb bread yesterday with sun dried tomatoes, garlic, basil and onion which is so good! It happened that my beloved stopped home just as it was ready to come out of the oven. He had not had lunch yet so was really pleased to have an English plowman's lunch.
I am wearing...
A camel boot-length corduroy skirt, dark brown 3/4 sleeve tee, brown suede flats and tights, a finely striped scarf in shades of camel, browns, copper and ivory.
I am creating...
A mental list of what I need to order for the gardens, the mulling which is one of my favourite winter tasks.
I am going...
To try to go for a walk most every day as I develop a new routine for this New Year. I discovered a lovely new route which takes me back through the gardens, the orchard, the path to the ridge and across the meadow to a nice look-out; then through the woods and on toward the road, following that back home to pick up the mail and return home which takes a good half hour.
I am wondering...
Where we will go for dinner tonight, which is date night, such a delightful evening to look forward to.
I am reading...
Arthur W. Pink's book on the beatitudes, another Letitia Cowman's devotional which name alludes me at the moment, my Bible, various news sources, Herb Companion, a weaving magazine, and more. A Kindle Fire was under the Christmas tree this year which is a delightful way to read the old out of print books that are so costly to procure. It is also a convenient way to study my Bible with the various reference books just a touch a way. Amazing. I am not a techie but appreciate having such an incredible library at my disposal, since my beloved hasn't gotten around to building more bookcases yet. Maybe he won't need to. ~smile~
I am hoping...
Yes. "Hope springs eternal!"
I am looking forward to...
Gathering fresh veggies from the garden over the winter! Still have Curly Kale, Chard, Brussel's Sprouts, Leeks, Carrots and more! The kale is the most exciting for me as I find so many ways to use it in sandwiches, pasta dishes, soups and as a garnish. It is deliciously sweet for nibbling.
I am learning
Something of the history of my "find of the year", a John Sturdevant double flier spinning wheel who had a small factory in Litchfield, Massachusetts in the late seventeen and early eighteen hundreds.
Around the house...
Lots of flowers in bloom including geraniums, a miniature rose, poinsettias, Christmas Cactus and more. Lovely!
I am pondering...
The brevity and uncertainty of our life here on earth as so many of those near and dear are no longer among us. How important it is to be ready for today could be the last day for any of us. It would behoove me to live each day as if it could be my last. Lots to think about!
A favorite quote for today...
O happy home, where Thou art loved the dearest,
Thou loving Friend and Savior of our race,
And where among the guests there never cometh
One who can hold such high and honored place!
O happy home, where two in heart united
In holy faith and blessèd hope are one,
Whom death a little while alone divideth,
And cannot end the union here begun!
O happy home, whose little ones are given
Early to Thee, in humble faith and prayer,
To Thee, their Friend, who from the heights of Heaven
Guides them, and guards with more than mother’s care!
O happy home, where each one serves Thee, lowly,
Whatever his appointed work may be,
Till every common task seems great and holy,
When it is done, O Lord, as unto Thee!
O happy home, where Thou art not forgotten,
Where joy is overflowing, full and free,
O happy home, where every wounded spirit
Is brought, Physician, Comforter, to Thee—
Until at last, when earth’s day’s work is ended,
All meet Thee in the blessèd home above,
From whence Thou camest, where Thou hast ascended,
Thy everlasting home of peace and love!
Much to my surprise, I like my laptop for it makes correspondence and research so efficient. I have long had this fantasy about being locked in a library. My computer is a virtual library which I only wish I had more time to peruse. Amazing.
A few plans for the rest of the week:
Saturdays are usually spent with my daughter/s (depending on their schedules) for a girls' day out. We sometimes do errands, perhaps peruse a new shop and have lunch some place special. Sometimes we explore back roads or just sip tea by the fire (or in the garden) and visit. Blessed bliss!
A peek into my day...
Max, our loyal guard cat who hastens to greet each and every visitor charming even the most reticent.
