Weekly Daybook

FOR TODAY

Outside my window...
Bitingly cold, cloudy and grey as I peer through the sparkling frosty patterned windows. A couple nights ago, I again noticed the moonlight shining through the lace curtained bedroom window right onto the bed, a sight that just thrilled my heart!

I am thinking...
How much I enjoy winter, a change of pace from the busy days of summer with so much to do. How pleasant it is to sit down withn a cuppa Hot Cinnamon Tea (Harney) with the seed and plant catalogues to plan for next summer and to find more time for homemaking tasks, especially baking.

I am thankful...
We are all enjoying good health.

In the kitchen...
Need to bake bread but will likely wait until tomorrow as my beloved won't be home in time for dinner tonight. It is so cold that I am thinking a homemade soup sounds good. Perhaps I will also make a raspberry/apple pie, a combination we especially like which cuts the intensity of the raspberry.

I am wearing...
Deep blue long-sleeved pima cotton tee, a dark grey baby waffle knit boot length skirt, a deep blue patterned scarf, black and grey Privo ballet flats, hair still drying, tucked into a chignon.

I am creating...
A dark blue and maroon variegated chenille scarf on my Schacht loom using a dark blue warp.

I am going...
To think about ways to more efficiently care for my many gardens in anticipation of the day when I might not feel so energetic. Downsizing isn't really an option.

I am wondering...
What kind of winter we are going to have. Read that it might be wet with lots of snow but warmer than usual so that it would not stay. Time will tell. The shovel is ready!

I am reading...
Springs in the Valley by Mrs Charles Cowman
The Beatitudes by A. W. Pink
My Bible
The Herb Quarterly
Weaving periodicals

I am hoping...
To get started on spring cleaning this week, something good to do before gardening commences in the spring when I will be too busy

I am looking forward to...
Mini vacations this winter as my beloved is just too busy to get away for any length of time right now so he likes to go out for dinners and occasional drives instead. Love it! We usually have appetisers or salad rather than the entres which are so filling.

I will be soon learning
How to spin on a vintage double flier spinning wheel. For my birthday, my beloved is restoring the c.1800 John Sturdevant wheel I found at a little antique shop a while back.

Around the house...
Just finished vacuuming throughout, linens are nearly to make up the bed fresh and everything is in order.

I am pondering...
Plans for reconfiguring the perennial garden and also the rose garden as my beloved wants to take over some of the space adjacent to the rose garden which means I won't be able to get through with the lawnmower.

A favorite quote for today...

"The New Year lies before you

like a spotless track of snow.

Be careful How you tread upon it

for every mark will show."
Author unknown

One of my favorite things...
Spikenard

A few plans for the rest of the week:
Hope to start warping the LeClerc colonial loom but it is hard to tear myself away from the fireside on these wintery days.

A peek into my day...
This photograph with the apple picking ladder is adjacent to my rose garden where I am pondering ideas for how to reduce mowing within the garden.
